Tharpanam
Nourish, Soothe & Strengthen Your Vision Naturally

Tharpanam
Tharpanam is employed as a treatment for ophthalmological diseases ranging from dryness of the eyes to neurodegenerative conditions like macular degeneration, optic nerve atrophy, etc. The patient is asked to lie supine with eyes closed. The word Tharpanam means to nourish.
Tharpanam is a deeply nourishing Ayurvedic treatment specifically designed to rejuvenate and strengthen the eyes. It involves gently bathing the eyes in warm, medicated ghee (clarified butter), allowing it to penetrate and heal delicate ocular tissues. Traditionally used to address a variety of eye conditions, Tharpanam also promotes mental clarity and inner calm.
Procedure :-
Preparation: The client lies down comfortably. A dough ring (made from black gram flour) is gently placed around the eyes to create a leak-proof chamber.
Application: Warm, medicated ghee is slowly poured into the cavity, covering the eyes while they remain closed initially.
Therapy Duration: The client is asked to slowly open and close the eyes during the process. The treatment usually lasts 15–30 minutes depending on the condition.
Post-Care: After the therapy, the ghee is carefully removed, and the area is gently cleaned. Cooling herbal eyewashes or soothing pads may be applied afterward.
Follow-Up: Specific Ayurvedic dietary or lifestyle advice may be given for continued eye care.
