According to Ayurvedic principles, toxins (known as ama) accumulate in the body due to poor digestion and weakened agni (digestive fire), leading to impurities in the blood (rakta dhatu) that manifest as skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, or allergic dermatitis.
Ayurvedic treatment focuses on detoxification, restoring digestive health, and balancing the doshas through a holistic approach that includes herbal remedies, dietary modifications, lifestyle changes, and purification therapies (Panchakarma).
Common Ayurvedic herbs used for skin and allergy conditions include Neem (Azadirachta indica), known for its blood purifying and antimicrobial properties, Turmeric (Curcuma longa), which reduces inflammation and supports immunity, and Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia), which helps cleanse the blood and promote skin healing.
Haridra Khanda, Mahamanjisthadi Kwath, and Panchatikta Ghrita are classical formulations often prescribed to manage chronic skin issues and allergic responses.
Additionally, external applications like Neem oil or herbal pastes made from sandalwood and turmeric help soothe irritated skin and reduce itching and rashes.
Diet plays a crucial role in Ayurvedic management avoiding spicy, oily, fermented, and processed foods helps pacify Pitta and prevent toxin buildup. Instead, a diet rich in fresh vegetables, whole grains, and cooling foods like cucumber and coconut water is recommended.
Why Choose Ayurveda for Skin & Allergy Care in the UAE?
Unlike conventional treatments that focus on temporary relief through topical creams or medications, Ayurveda addresses the root cause of your condition. It considers your unique body type (Prakriti), lifestyle, diet, and environmental factors such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s intense heat, humidity, and pollution , which can aggravate skin issues.
According to Ayurveda, skin problems arise due to imbalances in the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha , particularly Pitta , which governs metabolism, digestion, and internal heat. When aggravated, Pitta leads to inflammation, redness, sensitivity, and other signs of skin irritation—all too common in the UAE climate .

In Ayurveda, the eyes are regarded as the most important sense organs, essential for perceiving the world around us. The loss of vision equates to the loss of versatility in experiencing life, as the world transforms into a unified darkness. To safeguard eye health, Ayurveda offers various kriyakalpas, specialized procedures within Shalakya Tantra (Ayurvedic ophthalmology). Among these, Netra Tarpanam is considered one of the most effective and essential practices.
The term “Tarpanam” translates to “nourishment,” signifying the primary goal of this procedure: to nourish and rejuvenate the eyes. Netra Tarpanam involves retaining lukewarm, medicated ghee over the eyes for a prescribed duration in frame made from black gram powder or similar materials. This therapeutic procedure offers both curative and preventive benefits, addressing a variety of eye conditions especially to pacify Vata and Pitta doshas.
Synonym: Netra Vasthi, Akshi tarpanam
Indications and Benefits of Netra Tarpanam:
Netra Tarpanam is highly beneficial for various eye disorders, particularly for those exposed to visual strain, such as people working long hours in front of computers or machines. The procedure helps to:
Alleviate dryness, roughness in the eyes.
Relieve stiffness of the eyelids.
Correct deviated eyeballs (strabismus) or squint.
Treat traumatic eye conditions.
Slow down or prevent macular degeneration.
Address computer vision syndrome.
Combat dry eye syndrome.
Help with degenerative eye conditions.
Assist in cases of 7th-6th nerve palsies.
Support recovery in myasthenia gravis.
Treat drooping eyelids (ptosis).
Manage diabetic retinopathy.
Resolve nonspecific corneal disorders.
Aid in the treatment of all types of glaucoma.
Delay early cataract formation.
Address refractive errors.
Help in hypertensive retinopathy.
Assist in optic neuritis.
Procedure Overview:
Purvakarma (Pre-Procedure Preparation): The patient’s body is prepared through various Panchakarma treatments to ensure optimal conditions for the procedure.
Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure): The patient lies supine on a treatment table (Droni). A compact, leak-proof frame made of powdered black gram is constructed around the eyes. The lukewarm, medicated ghee is then gently poured into the wall until it reaches the level of the tip of eyelashes. The patient is instructed to gently open and close their eyes while the ghee is retained for the prescribed time.
Paschat Karma (Post-Procedure Care): After the procedure, the ghee and black gram ring is removed, and the area around the eyes is cleaned. Medicated smoke is inhaled. A subsequent procedure, known as Putapaka, may be conducted following the completion of Netra Tarpanam.
